Ounanian and Wardrop resoponded to the architectural changes resulting in the displacement of local residents which took place in Marseille during its time as the European capital of culture.

The seafront façade was designed to be seen from vantage point of the cruise ships, welcoming in tourists for a, hopefully expensive, afternoon.
